About usThe Bartlett School of Planning at UCL is a research-led planning school at the forefront of tackling major urban priorities and challenges. As a truly interdisciplinary centre of excellence, it plays a leading role in shaping debates in the fields of urban planning, urban studies and geography, urban design, and real estate. It also offers a range of innovative planning and built environment teaching programmes. The school has three undergraduate programmes, twelve taught masters programmes and a research degree programme.About the roleOne research fellow is required to work for the ERC Advanced Grant Project, Rethinking China’s Model of Urban Governance (ChinaUrban): https://ChinaUrban.Org.The appointed researcher will be required to work closely with the project PI (Prof. Fulong Wu) and CI (Prof. Fangzhu Zhang) to examine urban governance in China. The research aims to provide a deeper understanding of China’s governance process through fieldwork in Chinese cities as appropriate.The appointment is available immediately or starting from 1 September 2024 for one year until 31 August 2025. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B.Please see a detailed job description and person specification in the attached Candidate pack.About youEssential requirements of the role:
- A PhD (or PhD thesis submitted) in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, or an appropriate relevant discipline
- Three journal articles published in international peer-reviewed journals
- Experience of using or developing database from on-line sources
- Demonstration of good knowledge of urban governance and the state in China
- Relevant project administrative experience and good organisational skills
- Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills without additional language helper
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team in a dynamic project
- Ability to manage own day to day workload and play a full role in supporting the delivery of the project
- Ability to actively follow policies such as those relating to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, data governance and risk assessment procedures
