ESG and Sustainable Business in the digital age

About the Project

The candidate is invited to develop a project on the intersaction between ESG/Sustainability and digitazation. The student will be supervised by Professor Ki-Hoon Lee who is the Professor of Sustainability in Business. The PhD project aims to provide an answer to the question how the practice of corporate ESG and/or sustainable business is evolving and changing in the digital age. Digital technologies such as AI and data analytics have the potential to help firms to achieve ESG/sustainability objectives such as carbon net zero. Digital tools and applications provide firms with more detailed data about their sustainability impacts and can form the basis of many new solutions. However, there are increasing demands to call for research into how firms to leverage digital technologies and utilise these in their business operations to manage ESG and/or sustainability. The project will produce novel research-based evidence to explain how digital technologies help firms to improve ESG practice and transition to sustainable business. 

Academic Qualifications:

A first degree (at least a 2.1) ideally in management/innovation/economics with a good fundamental knowledge environmental, social and governance (ESG) and sustainable business.

 

English Language Requirement:

IELTS score must be at least 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each of the four components), Ither equivalent qualifications will be accepted. Full details of the University’s policy are available online.

Essential Attributes:

·       Experience of fundamental quantitative or qualitative data analysis

·       Competent in data management with software

·       Knowledge of environmental and social sustainability performance and digital technology applications with AI or data analytics

·       Good written and oral communication skills

·       Strong motivation, with evidence of independent research skills relevant to the project

·       Good time management

Desirable Attributes:

Business research and/or industry analysis experiences on ESG/sustainability performance and related analysis, digital technologies such as data analytics.
