Your team

Within the The Directorate Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre,the “Technical Systems” service is responsible for the maintenance, development and improvement of software products which support MUAC in achieving its safety and capacity targets and sustain the growing air traffic demand. It provides also resources to various projects in its area of expertise and maintains technical hardware.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Maintain the hardware and software of the ground-ground (telephony) and air- ground (radio) voice communication systems (e.g., voice switches, recorders, radio equipment, telecom infrastructure).
  • Analyse and diagnose component and system issues (troubleshooting).
  • Follow-up, develop solutions and implement functional changes and improvements to the systems.
  • Test, integrate and implement new functionality and fixes received from suppliers.
  • Participate to the (re)-installation, cabling, configuration, set-up, testing and implementation of the systems and equipment.
  • Create and maintain the configuration and documentation sets of voice systems and its related subsystems.
  • Contribute to projects or procurement of new equipment and systems (i.e., drafting of technical specifications and evaluation of industry offers), participate in activities related to configuration control, acceptance testing, validation and the operational transfer.
  • Carry out any other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.

The jobholder participates in shift work (Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 20:30, stand-by duties and occasional night activities).

Staff working in shift, on call or on standby will receive allowances pursuant to the applicable legal provisions in the Staff Regulations.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant engineering field (e.g. electronics, IT, telecommunications, etc).

    A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area would be an asset.

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience to carry out the advertised responsibilities.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • This job is subject to the following internal certificates: Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) Competence
  • Relevant working experience in at least one of the following fields:
    • Electronics engineering (hardware and software) for telecommunication systems
    • Radio systems (transmitters, receivers, RF-cabling, antennae, couplers, etc.)
    • Analogue systems (Audio systems, HiFi, Headsets, microphones, etc)
    • VoIP systems and protocols (Networks, SIP, PBX, SBC, Media Gateways, etc)
  • Theoretical knowledge of all above mentioned fields is required.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following would be an asset:
    • Modern ICT systems (hardware, software, servers, routers, switches, cabling, etc)
    • Operating systems (Linux, Windows, etc)
    • Virtualisation systems (VM-ware, containerisation, etc)
    • Legacy Communication Technologies (TDM, multiplexers, ISDN, DTMF)
  • Technical drafting skills in English.

Useful information

  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract for a duration of five (5) years in accordance with the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. This contract may be renewed for a total duration of up to nine (9) years, or it may be converted into an undetermined contract.
  • The selected candidate must successfully complete a probationary period of nine (9) months before being established in the post.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
