Job Description:Job Title: Events Manager – Software Sustainability InstituteUE07 – £39,347 to £46,974 per annumCollege of Science & Engineering / EPCCContract Type – Fixed Term (2 years) With the possibility of extension, subject to fundingFull Time – 35 Hours Per WeekThe OpportunityThe position is based at the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) and will require the post holder to manage and chair the SSI’s two main events, as well as provide event organisation support and advice for other smaller events. This is a wonderful opportunity to join the SSI team when we are expanding our reach and implementing innovative event management practices. The post holder will be expected to bring dedicated events experience to the role and will join the SSI team at an exciting time.About the SSIThe Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) facilitates the advancement of software in research by cultivating better, more sustainable, research software to enable world-class research (“Better software, better research”).Based at the Universities of Edinburgh (EPCC), Manchester, Oxford and Southampton, the SSI draws on a team of experts with a breadth of experience in software development, project and programme management, research facilitation, publicity and community engagement.About EPCCEPCC is the UK’s leading centre for Supercomputing and Data Science expertise. Since its inception in 1990, EPCC has gained an international reputation for leading-edge capability in all aspects of high-performance computing (HPC), data analytics, and novel computing. Headed by Professor Iain Gordon, CSE comprises seven Schools (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, GeoSciences, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy) as well as a national supercomputing centre (the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre) and the Bayes Centre for interdisciplinary data science and innovation. We extend beyond the University through many joint activities – for example we host the cross-Scotland DataLab innovation Centre, we are a founding partner in the Scottish Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre, and we are a partner in UK-wide collaborations including the Alan Turing Institute and the Rosalind Franklin Institute. Most Schools are located 2 miles south of the city centre at the King’s Buildings whilst Informatics, EPCC, Bayes and sections of GeoSciences are located in the University’s Central Area near George Square. The College has over 3,000 academic and support staff, and educates around 7,000 undergraduates, almost 1,500 taught postgraduates and more than 2,000 research students.
