Contract length: 2 years with possibility of extension

Location: Thames21’s main office at the Guildhall, City of London; but we also
offer hybrid working

Purpose of the job:

Your role is to lead delivery of various projects within the Evidence Program. Projects work
closely with a variety of project partners and are focused on evidencing water quality
pollution issues, identifying opportunities for pollution mitigation using nature-based
treatment solutions and monitoring their effectiveness. You will develop models, work with
existing models and data, take water samples, monitor existing treatment wetlands and working
alongside the local community and citizen scientists in order to enhance the evidence base and
drive solutions to pollution. This job would suit somebody with experience in the field of
water quality or nature-based solutions who has some supervisory experience.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Management and delivery of various projects – including constructing work plans, achieving
    project milestones, potentially managing/supervising others
  • Measure the effectiveness of a variety of nature-based treatment systems through water
    sampling using a variety of techniques (citizen science, real-time sondes, water and biological
    samples)
  • Work with local communities to evidence pollution issues through targeted water sampling
    campaigns to inform models
  • Recruit and support communities to work with water quality models to identify opportunities
    for nature-based treatment solutions to mitigate pollution
  • Work with project partners to oversee the continued development of an existing road runoff
    risk model
  • Care for and monitor freshwater mussels and assess their capacity to treat polluted water
  • Routine care of probes, water testing kits and other field equipment
  • Data analysis, visualisation and presentation of results to a range of professional and
    volunteer stakeholders
  • Support other projects / members of the Evidence Team as required through carrying out
    surveys and monitoring
