(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)Required for Professional RegistrationJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Vice President, Knowledge, Practice and Chief Nurse Executive, with accountabilities to the Vice President, Medicine, Quality and Chief Medical Officer, the Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners (ED, NP) provides senior leadership and direction to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) portfolio that integrates both practice and operational responsibilities including Professional Practice standards and accountabilities, evolving models of care, clinical practice and education models, quality care, and Health Human Resources workforce strategy. The Executive Director leads Nurse Practitioner strategic planning, including ongoing role and practice development, implementation and sustainability of the roles, and quality oversite to NP practice across Island Health. Leads the integration of clinical information with care environment requirements for practice, education and research by developing solutions and conceptual models of patient care in a complex inter-professional environment. Provides senior leadership in developing professional practice standards of care consistent with the values of the organization, clinical professional development standards, and representative of patient and family centred care.This senior leadership role collaborates with other executives and senior leaders on all aspects of strategic planning, quality and clinical transformation that cross and affect major segments of the organization to move initiatives forward, ensuring a commitment to best practice in all aspects of patient care across the care continuum. Liaises, strategizes, consults, negotiates and collaborates with various external healthcare and government organizations both provincially and nationally, including the Ministry of Health, Nursing Policy Secretariat, Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), Association of Nurse and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC), Post-Secondary Academic Institutions, Accreditation Canada, vendors, government agencies, and other partner organizations. Develops collaborative networks within Island Health including senior operational leaders, the People Team, Quality & Patient Safety, Decision Support, Medical Leaders, Island Health HAMAC, and senior Executive Directors.The Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners, works together in a collaborative leadership model promoting interprofessional practice and a culture of continuous quality improvement. The position is accountable for specific and measurable goals in their area, as well as shared accountabilities to spearhead integrated clinical strategy, act as a change agent, and advocate for initiatives across Island Health to enhance models of care and improve patient outcomes. The position is accountable and responsible for establishing the strategic direction and clinical and operational leadership for all matters related to NPs including standards, education, quality, evaluation, research and patient experience across Island Health. The Executive Director of NPs works collaboratively with the Executive Directors of Professional Practice (Nursing and Allied), Clinical Informatics and Virtual Health portfolios to collectively drive strategic priorities forward.Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceDoctoral (DNP/PhD) degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, plus ten (10) years’ recent, related progressively senior clinical leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in leading professional practice, program management, change management, or strategic initiative development, implementation, and system planning in a large health organization. Demonstrated experience with research process and methodology, as well as evaluation of complex systems, program planning, implementation and evaluation approaches. Valid BC Driver’s License.Current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner.Maintains their clinical Nurse Practitioner practice in their area of expertise/interest, and must be eligible and maintain active membership on the Island Health medical staff.Skills And Abilities

  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external partners to develop, manage and evaluate programs/services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of legislative policy development and processes of various levels of government to ensure well-informed decision-making.
  • Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation abilities to develop effective strategies and ensure support and attainment of goals.
  • Applies superior judgment and political expertise as well as strong communication skills to relay sensitive information and effectively persuade and negotiate with a variety of internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that promote a respectful, motivating and empowering work environment, where individual competencies can thrive.
