About the Role:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Experiential Education this position is responsible for collaborating with the Faculty of Humanities to support experiential education planning, design, implementation and evaluation. In this role, you will identify, cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners, and faculty members with the objective of developing experiential education (EE) opportunties that support the goals and curriculum of the Faculty of Humanities. Brock University operates under a centralized model for experiential education, this role also supports communication and marketing efforts that promote the activities of and success of experiential education.

The Experiential Education Coordinator, Faculty of Humanities will:

  • Work alongside faculty to support the design and completion of assignments, assessment and evaluation processes to support the integration of course content with experiential opportunities;
  • Act as the point person and manage any issues that may arise during the course of an experiential education opportunity connected to community partnerships;
  • Ensure the Faculty is aware of and has the opportunity to take advantage of any internal and external funding or resource support that arises for Experiential Education;
  • Act as an ambassador for Brock and the Faculty at community functions, events and when working with community partners, to build relationships and respond to issues pertaining experiential education;
  • Work with peers in the department to ensure a cohesive approach to partnership development and management, including streamlined and efficient communication processes;
  • Assist in the development of short and long-term plans for the Faculty, related to internships, placements and all aspects of experiential education;
  • Working with the Office of the Dean, design and develop critical path planning for existing courses/programs within the Faculty;
  • Identify, cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners to provide appropriate experiential education opportunities across the faculty;
  • Meet with community partners, both internal and external to determine expectations for experiential education;
  • Meet with alumni to gather information about their experience in the program, as it relates to preparedness for work;
  • Develop and deliver student orientation to experiential projects in class;
  • Participate in the creation and uphold policies, processes and procedures pertaining to service-learning, field experiences, internships, and other forms of Experiential Education;
  • Contribute to marketing campaigns that relate to Experiential Education within the Faculty, University and community.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelors degree in a related field;
  • Relevant experience, including work in the field of experiential education;
  • Knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of experiential learning;
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism demonstrated with community partners, students, staff and faculty;
  • Knowledge of the educational process and courses/programs offered at Brock and within the Faculty;
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of local community organizations, public agencies, and the private sector;
  • Solid computer competency including word processing, spreadsheets, databases web applications and web maintenance, social media, internet search engines, Brightspace, etc.;
  • Ability to develop nuanced messaging, demonstrate the value of experiential education and ask community partners for support in providing experiential education opportunities;
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team that shares best practices and collaborates to find efficiencies and synergies;
  • Strong judgement, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess a situation and take appropriate action;
  • Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to take initiative in developing new and expanding existing experiential education opportunities and partnerships.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • It is an asset if the Bachelor’s degree (required) is from a Faculty of Humanities;
  • Comprehensive understanding of University/public sector governance, policies,
  • procedures and culture.
  • Research grant writing or review experience.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280);
  • Target Hiring Range: $62,580-$65,000
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.
