Job description
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is part of the Global Research Partnership for a Food Secure Future (CGIAR), which is dedicated to transforming food, land and water systems in a climate crisis. The IRRI works in rice-based agri-food systems to abolish poverty and hunger, improve nutrition, health and welfare of farming communities, and promote environmental sustainability. The center provides rice science for development through collaborating with government, advanced research institutes, national research and extension systems, and the private sector.
IRRI furthermore works on inclusive markets and value chains, digital and spatial landscapes, climate resilient farming, gender and livelihoods, and transformative policies and investments. The organization, as part of the CGIAR implements work that support the scaling of proven innovations and packages. The Integrated Expert will support IRRI and its partners in creating new partnerships and linking entrepreneurs with finance models in order to bring rice-based innovations into broadscale use. He/she will also establish minimum standards for working with small businesses, enhance management capacity and document business models.
Your Tasks
- Establishing innovation and scaling partnerships that support businesses in the rice sector.
- Exploring financing mechanisms for these partnerships that are inclusive in terms of gender and other social groups.
- Developing the capacity of emerging enterprises and existing partners in business management.
- Developing the capacity of the project team(s) on engaging finance and business groups as part of scaling innovations.
- Consolidating and communicating guidelines and reports, and contributing to publications.
Your profile
- Academic degree in Economics, Business or Finance, preferably with an MSc or PhD.
- Experience in connecting small, rural entrepreneurs in the agri-food sector with investors and financing partners.
- Knowledge of inclusive innovation and scaling concepts, and the ability to address gaps for widespread innovation use.
- Regional experience in Southeast Asia, preferably in Cambodia and Vietnam, with familiarity with key agricultural stakeholders.
- Team player capable of working in multi-cultural settings (e.g., farming community groups) and willing to travel.
- Business fluent in english
