Job title:

Expression of Interest for hosting Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellows in Transposon and Cancer Epigenetics

Company

Job description

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fund excellent research and innovation and equip researchers at all stages of their career with new knowledge and skills, through mobility across borders and exposure to different sectors and disciplines. The MSCA support the mobility of researchers between countries, sectors and disciplines to acquire new knowledge, skills and competences. The proposals are submitted by the candidate with the agreement of the supervisor of the host institution. Our lab is located at the Barts Cancer Institute, in London and focuses on the roles of transposable elements (TEs) in cancer genomes. We aim to understand the epigenetic regulation of transposable elements (TEs) and their role in cancer development. Epigenetic dysregulations in cancer provides a fertile ground for TE activation. We focus on how dysregulated TEs act as gene regulators, triggers of anti-tumor immunity and drivers of cancer progression, seeking to harness these elements for innovative cancer treatments. Using advanced single-cell, bulk-level epigenomics and transcriptomics with functional assays and drug screens, we aim to comprehensively delineate the molecular and cellular functions of TEs in cancer genome.Focusing on blood cancers our research areas include:

  • Determining cis-regulatory roles of TEs in cancer.
  • Investigating immune modulatory activities of TEs in cancer.
  • Exploring the role of TEs in cancer evolution from pre-cancerous stages to relapse.
  • Leveraging single-cell omics data to determine the contribution of TEs to cellular heterogeneity and lineage plasticity in cancer.

We support the prospective fellows through their application for the MSCA and welcome any ideas and wet-lab or dry-lab projects in transposon and cancer epigenetics area. If you are interested please get in touch with Dr Özgen Deniz : by 8th July to develop the projects.Share this page
