The Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is seeking to recruit a new Faculty member who can contribute to research and teaching in Statistics from September 2025 (or by agreement).Appointment may be made at any grade between Assistant Professor (Grade 9) and Professor (Grade 11/Reader equivalent) and applications are welcome at all levels. Appointment at Assistant Professor level, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period (3-5 years), leads to a tenured position. A candidate who can demonstrate a track record of exceptional achievement may alternatively be appointed directly at the level of Associate Professor (Grade 10) or Professor (Grade 11). The successful candidate will be eligible for the University’s merit-based promotion procedure leading to Professor (Grade 12).Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related subject. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of research excellence and be able to lecture a range of courses in statistics at undergraduate and masters level. They will have the ability, or potential, to secure research funding to support their research vision and build a network of collaborators. The post-holder will be part of the world-leading Statistical Laboratory with strong interdisciplinary connections within Cambridge, the UK and internationally.The University of Cambridge has been ranked in the top 5 for Mathematics in the QS World Rankings for each of the last 5 years. The Mathematics departments occupy a modern, purpose-built campus, also including the Isaac Newton Institute.
