Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families across the Mount Isa and gulf region? As part of our Family and Child Connect Service, we need you to join our team of dedicated professionals, helping to maximise their impact on the lives of vulnerable families. In this varied and challenging role, you’ll help give families the tools they need to thrive.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full-time maximum term position (through to December 2024), based in Mount Isa, you’ll work within a case management framework including and outreach model to families with children under 18 years old in their care requiring supports. Based in Mount Isa, you will work closely alongside external stakeholders to increase and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children as part of our Family and Child Connect team.

You will make an impact by:

  • Supporting families with vulnerabilities who have children aged 0-18 years through supporting the parents/carer to connect with support services in their local community
  • Ensuring the voices of children and young people are heard
  • Increasing (as required) the family and community support networks of families to enable long term community support
  • Building and maintaining strong networks and partnerships with relevant services to ensure effective referral pathways

Does this sound like you?

You’re an experienced practitioner who is passionate about supporting families within a child centred, strengths-based framework. Importantly, you have a strong understanding of the impact of trauma on children and their families and you’re keenly aware of the additional impacts and barriers experienced by Indigenous families.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience in case management and knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities and families
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or significant experience working in a similar role
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the stresses on vulnerable families and the range of family risk and protective factors which impact on child outcomes
  • Current Drivers Licence

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

54 Reasons is proudly part of Save the Children Australia. We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 1100 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

We are creative, connected and accountable, bringing energy, guts and ideas to all we do to champion children in Australia and partner with families, communities and partners to bring about change.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development. Our leave provisions include personal, ceremonial and family violence leave as well as the ability to purchase additional leave.
