Farm Environmental Advisor

About us

Chris Seabridge & Associates is an independent farm and rural consultancy established in 2011. We provide farm environmental advice across the West Midlands — helping businesses build resilience while supporting the delivery of real environmental gain.

We are a distinctive hands-on team where every advisor has a strategic and important part to play in contributing to our varied client portfolio. Our client base ranges from family farms to country estates, specialist rural planning companies and public bodies. Our advisory team combines decades of practical farming experience with strong academic backgrounds.

The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, ambitious Farm Environmental Advisor to join our team – someone with the people skills to build genuine trust with farmers, and the technical grounding to give them advice they value.

You will be helping clients navigate agri-environment schemes, resource protection, habitat management and regulatory compliance, while shaping sustainable, profitable businesses. You will already have a broad range of skills and experience, gained through farming and/or in nature conservation work. You will develop ownership of your client base and have the opportunity to develop specialisms, with the backing of an experienced, supportive team.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver independent, professional on-farm advice across a range of environmental and conservation issues
  • Advise on and prepare agri-environment scheme applications and other agricultural support schemes
  • Provide resource protection advice to safeguard watercourses and support climate resilience
  • Carry out farm environmental assurance scheme audits (e.g. LEAF)
  • Conduct Preliminary Ecological Assessments (PEA) including evaluation of impacts on protected species
  • Carry out habitat mapping and condition assessment (UKHabs) and complete BNG calculation using the Natural England Metric spreadsheet
  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with farmers, landowners and estate managers
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, regulation and funding mechanisms, and translate this into clear, practical guidance
  • Support the development of junior team members and contribute to the wider growth of the business
  • Represent the business at knowledge transfer events, farm walks and industry meetings

What you will bring

Essential:

  • Graduate in environmental or agriculture related subject
  • Experience providing on-farm advice, or working/volunteering in agriculture or the environmental sector
  • Sound knowledge of farming systems, and of the financial support mechanisms available to farm businesses
  • Full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and influence
  • Excellent report writing, administration and IT skills (including MS Office)
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload, as well as part of a team

Desirable:

  • BASIS Soil & Water, FACTS or C.Env. CIEEM (any one of these qualifications)
  • Experience with mapping software (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS)

Our benefits

  • Competitive salary of £29,500–£40,050, depending on experience
  • Pension contributions
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell leave
  • Flexible, family-friendly working
  • Fully supported professional development — training, qualifications and professional subscriptions funded
  • Genuine progression — a small business where your contribution will be reflected in the management of the business
  • Variety of work across farms, estates and public-sector contracts, rather than a single scheme or funding stream

Closing date: Monday 12th October 2026
