About Us

We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, an organisation that protects, enhances and
promotes the immense beauty, wildlife and character of the Yorkshire Dales. Set against
expansive heather moorland tops, each valley has its own distinct charm, from crags and
waterfalls to an underground labyrinth of caves.

The Defra funded Farming in Protected Landscapes programme was launched in 2021 and provides
grants to farmers and land managers looking to deliver on climate, nature, access and landscape
outcomes.

We’re currently looking for a Farming in Protected Landscapes Officer to join our delivery team
on a fixed term basis until March 2025. The role is full-time (37 hours per week), based at our
office in Grassington near Skipton, with the potential for some regular home working.

The Role

The role is integral to the successful delivery of the Defra funded programme within the
Yorkshire Dales National Park and will include:

  • Helping to develop project ideas with farmers and land managers
  • Assessing applications;
  • Providing recommendations to the Local Assessment Panels; and
  • Providing monitoring and feedback on the progress of the scheme to Defra.

About You

As an experienced farm advisor you will be articulate and pragmatic, ideally with an in-depth
understanding of upland farming and land management, preferably within a protected landscape.

You will be efficient with an excellent attention to detail, be able to prioritise workload
effectively to meet deadlines and manage competing demands. You will have excellent report
writing and presentation skills.

Ideally you will have experience of monitoring conservation agreements and processing of
associated claims.

Access to a car or access to a means of mobility support to meet the travel demands of the post
(if driving must have a current valid driving licence and appropriate insurance) is essential.
