Established in 1943, our network of Learning Locations provides day and residential outdoor
education courses for all ages. We aim to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to

What you’ll be doing

This role will see you leading biology and geography learning activities to all age groups,
which will increase your students understanding of nature and the environment.

You will also lead outdoor activities such as hill-walking, ghyll-scrambling, sea-level
traverse, canoeing, climbing and various team challenges.

Your day to day will include developing, planning, and delivering learning programmes in
outdoor teaching sites. This will involve guiding groups of all abilities in the local
environment, ensuring you always have the health and safety of the group in mind.

When you are not working in the field, you will also be happy to contribute to other aspects of
working in a busy education centre. This is a very active role, some weeks will be long and
tiring, but our tutors find this work very rewarding, and we promise you will too!

Where you’ll be based

Field Studies Council Castle Head is located in south Cumbria between the coast of Morecambe
Bay and the Lake District National Park. The centre is set in 30 acres of grounds with a
diversity of habitats including woodland, grassland and freshwater.

With over 150 beds, 5 workrooms, a meeting room to seat up to 120 and a sports hall we cater
for most group needs and deliver a wide range of programmes in field studies and adventurous
activities.

Who we’re looking for

You will have a degree in biology or closely allied discipline as well as at least two of the
following qualifications and be willing to work towards the third: Mountain Leader, Paddlesport
Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor. In addition, you will have:
