Field Studies Tutor

About the Centre

Leeson House is a Dorset Council owned Field Studies Centre on the Jurassic coast of Dorset.
The Centre sleeps up to 100 people in a fabulous 17th Century mansion with 7 acres of grounds.
As well as a very full programme of residential visits from schools across the UK, we have a
large number of day visits. All visitors make use of our amazing location, with regular visits
to world famous fieldwork sites such as Studland, Old Harry Rocks and Durdle Door. We work with
children and young people of all ages, from reception up to University.

About the role

As a Leeson House tutor you’ll be part of a small, friendly team. You’ll work closely alongside
five other tutors, sharing your passion for outdoor learning whilst leading activities on our
7-acre site and in the surrounding area. You’ll plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality
fieldwork and outdoor learning sessions for visiting groups from KS1 through to A Level. Whilst
we would expect candidates to have a particular teaching specialism (of subject or age group) in
which they may eventually take the lead, we require tutors to work across the age and subject
range here, after a period of training.

During quieter times you’ll help design new sessions, maintain resources and contribute to the
development of the Centre’s facilities and grounds.

As an added incentive, the successful candidate will also have the option of affordable on-site
accommodation in a shared bungalow – available for Centre staff on a temporary or permanent
basis.

About you

  • you’ll be an experienced outdoor educator with a real enthusiasm for engaging children and
    young people.
  • you’ll be confident leading sessions across a range of ages and subjects.
  • you’ll bring energy, adaptability and the physical ability needed to access our teaching
    sites.
  • you’ll ideally be able to drive a minibus (or be willing to train) and have access to
    transport when required.
  • you’ll be happy working flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, with TOIL
    given in return.

The role is available immediately, though we envisage that the successful candidate will start
some time between October and January.

For an informal discussion about the role, please call James or Eric, on 01929 422126, or
email [email protected].
