Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust
The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) is looking for a Finance and Admin Officer to provide crucial financial and administrative
support for our team, enabling us to deliver impactful marine mammal conservation projects in
Scotland. This is a permanent, 30 hour per week role.
HWDT is a marine conservation charity that takes action
through a unique programme of community-based research and education. We conduct the research
that underpins the future safeguarding of whales, dolphins and porpoises and provide
educational experiences from the Hebridean Whale Centre, on our boat Silurian and by visiting
schools around the whole of the Hebrides.
Based on the Isle of Mull, in the heart of the Hebrides, HWDT has been leading the way for the
conservation of whales, dolphins and porpoises in the waters of western Scotland for three
decades. Our research has critically advanced the understanding of species that visit
seasonally or are resident in the Hebrides. Using what we have learnt, we work directly with
communities through our education and engagement programmes to highlight the importance of the
marine environment and encourage people to take responsibility for protecting it for future
generations.
As a key member of our team the Finance and Admin Officer will undertake day-to-day finance
tasks and assist in the management of the financial activities of the Trust.
We are looking for somebody with previous experience in a similar role. Our ideal candidate
will have strong financial management and documentation and record keeping skills and be
confident using a cloud-based finance software such as QuickBooks. Experience of organisational
or project budgeting including full cost recovery would be an advantage.
The ability to be a friendly and professional first point of contact for email enquiries and
callers to HWDT offices and to give administrative support for our small team is essential to this role.
We are seeking someone who is pro-active, organised with good attention to detail, and able to
work to tight deadlines to deliver the varied tasks required to ensure the efficient operation
of the office and administrative systems.
The role is based from the HWDT office in Tobermory, with some working from home available. The
hours can be worked over 4 or 5 days per week to suit individual circumstances.
