Finance and Administration Intern

Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and by empowering children to make their voices count. TdH NL focuses on sexual exploitation of children, forms of child labour, child trafficking and migration, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and on child protection in humanitarian crises. For each of these forms of child exploitation, TdH NL is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and Africa. Objectives of the internship

The objective of this position is to provide a learning environment for an aspiring Finance and Accounting professional, who will also contribute to the finance, administration and procurement functions at Terre des Hommes Netherlands.

Position in the organization

The Finance and Administration intern will work with the Kenya country team and will receive hierarchical leadership and support from the Finance and Administration Officer to whom he/she reports.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure coordination of complete and accurate supporting documentation for all financial transactions;
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports in the approved Financial Reporting templates in Excel;
  • Prepare Bank Reconciliations and maintenance of cash books;
  • Preparation of payment vouchers for both operational and project expenses;
  • Assist in review of Cash Requests and Expense Declaration Reports and ensuring all documents are complete and accurate as per TdH NL policies and procedures;
  • Assist in the procurement processes for Projects and for the Kenya Country Office;
  • Filing of all supporting documents and ensuring the filing system is up to date;
  • Assist in preparing supporting schedules and retrieval of support documents for internal and external audits;
  • Performing any other duty as may be assigned by the line manager.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Finance, Accounting or Economics or related field OR
  • Recently completed (less than a year) a bachelor’s/master’s degree program in Finance, Accounting or Economics or related fields but with ongoing CPA qualification studies
  • Proficiency in MS Excel/Google Sheets is essential
