Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant (FA) will be responsible for performing day-to-day petty cash transactions and treasury functions of DRC Bangladesh in Dhaka Office among other regular tasks. S/he will closely work with Cox’s Bazar Finance team on accounting management, data entry on the ERP system, bank transactions etc. The FA will also be responsible for overseeing financial compliance for the payment requests to be processed through Dhaka Office. He/she will provide support to the finance unit at the DRC Country Office and other legal entities visiting in Bangladesh.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Core Tasks:

  • Management of Petty Cash/Imprest for CO in Dhaka with support from Finance Manager.
  • Review payment requests in accordance with donor compliance and DRC policies.
  • Maintain proper filing and easy retrieval of financial documents.
  • Ensure all accounting vouchers are stamped with “PAID” seal.
  • Deduct VAT and Tax from the payments as per GoB rules.
  • Maintain manual cash book and keep it updated on a regular basis.
  • Maintain petty cash funds, input financial data in the manual cashbook, and put on reconciliation of petty cash funds on a daily basis.
  • Top up petty cash funds up to the approved ceiling and keep the same in a safe custody.
  • Prepare cash denomination/reconciliation statement.
  • Liaison with banks to make sure smooth availability of liquidity.
  • Prepare necessary reconciliations aligning with DRC Dynamics.
  • Retrieve all financial documents (hard copy) during internal and external audits.
  • Prepare cheques/bank transfer to execute payments.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Safety:

Comply with all global and location-specific safety rules, policies, and procedures. Report safety incidents, near-misses and other relevant information to the safety team as shall be briefed during onboarding. Failure to adhere to these is a disciplinary offence while it may also leave the position holder, their colleagues and DRC Bangladesh, at risk.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the finance department preferably in an (I)NGO.
  • Work experience in the humanitarian sector is desired.
  • Knowledge of local taxation law.
  • Intermediate computer skills in MS Word & Excel.
  • Experience working with an ERP system.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce / Business Administration.

Language:

  • English (Fluent in writing and speaking)
  • Bengali (Fluent in writing and speaking)
