Finance Manager

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology is looking for an experienced Finance Manager, who will lead on the management of Departmental finances on behalf of the Head of Department in order to provide strategic input and ensure compliance with financial procedures and regulations.

You will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality accounts service for the whole Department and will lead on the management of policy and processes for Departmental finances. You will have oversight of the provision of a comprehensive and efficient research grant management service, through all stages of the grant management process and supports principal investigators in the monitoring and management of individual grants.

You will be managing the Accounts and Stores teams, which currently includes 5 members of staff.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally with Chartered Accountancy experience, you will have experience of leading an accounting/finance team, experience of providing financial advice to non-financial staff, familiarity with the current research funding environment and experience of applying for and administering research grants and contracts. We welcome applicants who have gained experience in either commercial or Higher Education/Public Sector environments. We will consider a market payment supplement for exceptional candidates.

An ability to interpret financial information and present it to both financial and non-financial contacts will be expected, along with competence in the use of Oracle Financials or a similar accounting programme, a knowledge of how VAT rules & regulations apply to educational institutions and knowledge of business processes & financial systems.

You will need to demonstrate highly specialised knowledge of finance/ accounting involving a critical understanding of relevant theory and/or principles outside of the immediate specialism.
