General Description of the Organization:
Ghiras Al-Nahda is a Nonprofit Non-governmental humanitarian organization working to empower people through fulfilling their basic needs and seeking to improve community stability and resilience.
Job Purpose:
The Finance Officer is responsible for managing the daily financial and accounting operations of Damascus office. The role includes processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, handling petty cash, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with internal financial policies. The Finance Officer reports directly to the Finance Coordinator at the headquarters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Daily Financial Transactions
- Record all financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Process payments to suppliers, service providers, and staff.
- Ensure that all financial transactions are properly documented and approved.
2. Petty Cash & Bank Management
- Manage petty cash and ensure sufficient funds for daily operations.
- Conduct daily and monthly cash counts and reconciliations.
- Process bank deposits, withdrawals, and maintain bank records.
3. Expense & Budget Control
- Ensure all expenses comply with the approved budget and policies.
- Monitor expenditures and report any discrepancies to the Finance Coordinator.
- Assist in budget planning for operational expenses.
4. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain financial documentation in an organized manner.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and donor regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary records.
5. Coordination & Communication:
- Work closely with program and logistics teams to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Communicate regularly with the Finance Coordinator at HQ regarding financial matters.
- Assist in training local staff on financial procedures when needed.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
· Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· Experience: At least 2 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a humanitarian or non-profit organization.
· Skills:
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial procedures.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of Al-Ameen and/or QuickBooks accounting system.
- Fluency in Arabic; advanced in English
