Work That Matters, People Who Care.Job DescriptionWHAT’S THE JOB?We are hiring a Food Service Associate – Cashier at Ontario Tech University in the UB Cafe! Work Schedule includes: Monday to Friday Between 7:00a-7:00pm, subject to change. Under the general supervision of the Management, the Food Service Associate (FSA) Cashier is
- responsible for:
- Morning bake of muffins, cookies & pastries
- Providing a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service.
- Registers sales on POS by scanning items, itemizing and totaling customers’ purchases.
- Balances cash drawer by counting cash at beginning of shift.
- Resolves customer issues and answers questions.
- Assist within our Café, where necessary when needed.
- Assist in the preparation of food items as needed
- Make sure the café is fully stocked and customers are able to easily find what they are looking for
- Engage customers with exceptional customer service, accurately receiving and processing their orders while making them feel welcome
- Maintain the cleanliness of the location, ensuring a safe and sanitary dining experience
- Assist as necessary for any other duties that arise out of business needs
- Follow the policies and standards of Marek Hospitality while adhering to food safety/sanitation legislation
- Adhere to all required health and safety regulations and procedures while preparing food including:
- proper techniques when using the tools, supplies and equipment provided (knives, ovens, cleaning
- materials)
- Wearing and correctly using proper personal protective equipment (i.e. non-slip shoes, cut-resistant gloves)
- Monitoring equipment and notifying appropriate parties of malfunctioning or in need of repair equipment
- Complying with FoodSafe and/or ServeSafe standards including the recording of all time temperature sensitive food items
- Adhere to portioning of food item standards to ensure recipe yield meets quantity and budget expectations
- Assist in preparing for catering events by performing set-up and serving as well as taking part in the takedown and clean-up post event
- Comply with maintenance of food rotation in storage in order to minimize spoilage and waste
- Maintain the cleanliness of the work area, including equipment, kitchen, and dining area. Clean dishes and cutlery manually or with the dishwasher
- Ensure refrigerators are stocked and maintained, taking care to use the First in, First Out (FIFO) system
- Remain an ambassador of goodwill, ethics, and great client relations at all times on behalf of Dana Hospitality
- Provide exceptional customer service at all times, supporting an environment that strives to create exceptional culinary experiences
- Maintains speed of service standards
- Listens to customers (internal and external) and responds professionally to all questions and concerns,
- directing concerns to further levels of management as needed
- Handle cashier duties as required, receiving and processing customer orders while ensuring the correct
- amount is charged and all payments are accurately accounted for
- Adhere to shift timing, maintaining a consistent schedule while being punctual and providing advanced
- notification, where possible, if there is a change in availability
- Other duties as assigned
QualificationsWHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Completion of high school education an asset
- 1-year experience in the food service industry preferred
- ServeSafe and/or FoodSafe certified an asset
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English and/or in English and French as appropriate
- Ability to clearly follow directions and produce desired results
- Able to function in a high paced environment, handling multiple tasks with speed and accuracy
- Ability to effectively use a computer and all related software, including POS equipment
- Knife skills an asset
- Reach and lift between 0-10 pounds from floor to shoulder height
- Frequent standing and walking required
- Grip and hold utensils
