The University of Leicester is seeking an exceptional individual to establish and lead our new Optometry programme within the School of Healthcare. This is a unique opportunity to shape a cutting-edge curriculum that meets the requirements of the General Optical Council (GOC), prepares students for professional success, and aligns with the University’s research-inspired teaching ethos.You will provide strategic leadership in developing and delivering an innovative, inclusive, and future-focused Optometry programme. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, building a team of expert educators, and fostering strong partnerships with employers, NHS Trusts, and the private sector to enhance student learning and employability. You will also contribute to the School’s research culture, ensuring all research-active staff are REF-returnable by 2028.As part of the School of Healthcare’s leadership team, you will drive excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice while embedding the University’s commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.About youWe are looking for an inspirational leader with a strong professional reputation in Optometry. You must be a registered Optometrist with the GOC, hold a PhD in a relevant field, and have extensive experience in curriculum design and team leadership. A proven track record of innovation in Optometry education and research, alongside a commitment to inclusive, high-quality teaching, is essential.Your ability to build strong external partnerships, engage in knowledge exchange, and develop high-quality learning experiences will be key to your success in this role.
