Freelance Opportunities – River Learning and Engagement Officer

Location: Freelancers are needed to deliver activities at riverside sites, community venues, festivals and schools across the Severn catchment. We are particularly interested in hearing from freelancers who can deliver activities across the central catchment, including Worcestershire and Shropshire.

Contract Type: Flexible, Day rate: £200, Half day rate: £125

What we are looking for

We are looking for self-employed individuals who are enthusiastic about the natural world and confident with engaging children, young people and families. Severn Rivers Trust is scaling up its community and education work across the catchment, and we are seeking passionate freelancers to support workshops, school sessions and community events.

Person specification

• Teaching experience including delivering curriculum based activities, forest school sessions, youth work, environmental education, community engagement, heritage learning and/or STEM activities.
• Ability to lead groups in a confident and engaging manner.
• Great communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to engage and influence a wide range of people in support of our work.
• Understanding of health and safety and safeguarding principles in relation to delivering outdoor education and working with children.
• A full current driving license and access to transport for business purposes.

What the role involves

• Delivering engaging curriculum-based activities, currently with a strong focus on KS1 and KS2, with the plan to expand into secondary schools and further education
• Planning and leading outdoor and indoor educational sessions for children and families
• Running stalls at community events and festivals
• Building positive relationships through work with schools and community groups
• Providing administrative support for events and workshops
• Representing Severn Rivers Trust positively and professionally

This is a casual freelance contract. Hours will vary, and will include weekday, weekend and evening work. We are seeking freelancers who can commit to delivering at least 2 to 4 days per month on average.

As this role involves regulated activity with children, successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check before commencing work. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent appointment and applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Safeguarding training will be provided during induction.

Access to a car with business insurance is essential.
