GL1507213GGAcademic Appointments are recruiting for Teaching Assistants – Trauma informed care in the South East area of Sheffield. The role would Monday – Friday and you would be working in a school which provides specialist education for children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Conditions and Communication and Interaction difficulties.The education provider follows the National curriculum subjects with adaptations for the specific needs of the individuals. Along with Literacy, Numeracy, Creativity and Humanities there is a large focus on learning transferable skills for their futures including independence, access to the wider community, world studies and vocational living.The school uses a trauma informed care approach which acknowledges the presence of trauma symptoms and the role they may play in an individuals life and development. Positive reinforcement is priority in this specialist setting and a passion for working with children is a necessity.A successful candidate would have:

  • experience supporting students with challenging behaviour, autism spectrum and complex needs
  • experience working with young adults
  • experience working within education or care in the UK in the last 12 months
  • trauma informed care training or experience
  • a passion for making a difference
  • a confident, caring, and assertive personality

What to expect:

  • No two days are ever the same!
  • Working in these settings requires patience, confidence, and a caring attitude as many of these students have difficult social, emotional, and mental health issues which need to be managed.
  • You will be supporting pupils learning transferrable skills for their futures including communication, literacy, numeracy, creativity, physical well being and independence. There may be some aspects of supporting them prepare for adulthood, access the wider community and develop skills for independent living.

  • Team Teach qualification (desirable)
  • Moving & handling training (desirable)
  • Available Monday – Friday for 5 days work
