The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with National Committees and UNICEF Country Offices to maximize income and drive income growth to support UNICEF’s mission.

The fundraising specialist will work as part of the legacy team within the wider Individual Giving team, who work with markets to directly influence private sector income. Legacies contribute towards the strategic plan 2022-2025 goals for Individual supporters through both revenues raised and the number of supporters leaving and interested in leaving a legacy gift to UNICEF. The PFP legacy team drive for results through their work to implement the global legacy strategy with the private sector fundraising markets.

The Fundraising Specialist (legacies) will primarily focus on supporting and enabling a portfolio of private-sector fundraising markets to grow their legacy activities to achieve higher levels of income from this source.

The incumbent will also support on the implementation and further development of UNICEF’s global legacy fundraising strategy, and both manage and contribute to a range of key projects and initiatives that relate to driving the ambitious growth of this income channel for the organization.

The incumbent will provide strategic advice, technical fundraising expertise, and support and guidance to a portfolio of UNICEF fundraising markets to help them grow and develop their legacy programs, in alignment with the UNICEF global legacy strategy. This will involve the legacy development of these markets in strong collaboration with the market and their teams of frontline fundraisers.

The incumbent will also lead on the outreach and engagement of the legacy community of fundraisers and provide them with opportunities to learn, develop and build their capabilities through knowledge sharing and world class legacy fundraising training. Furthermore, the incumbent will be required to support the overall building of the profile of legacies internally and externally.

This is a cross-functional role that will work together with other members of the Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships team and be a part of the central Individual Giving legacy team in Geneva.

DELIVERABLES:

Guide assigned portfolio of UNICEF markets towards growth in legacy revenue and deliver increased performance in results

  • Work closely with PFP IG colleagues, PFP Global Philanthropy, PFP Market development, and Private Sector Fundraising Market’s frontline fundraisers and their managers and teams to develop strategies and plans to grow their legacy activities and income.
  • Work with PFP colleagues and markets to set income goals, analyze performance and forecast their revenue.
  • Support markets in building their business cases for their legacy program and securing resources for their activities.
  • Deliver the IG legacy service offer to markets and ensure activities are aligned with the global IG and legacy strategies and supporting approaches.
  • Support markets on their approach to building supporter-centric relationships and developing legacy products and services that meet their supporter’s needs.
  • Work with teams across fundraising to support the integration of legacies into supporter journeys and ensure all the target audiences are being reached with legacy messaging.
  • Support markets in meeting their research needs and help them to find actionable insight to develop their legacy programs further.
  • Support markets on how to align with UNICEF’s legacy positioning and messaging, whilst adapting for the local context.
  • Provide regular support to markets on the monitoring of their legacy marketing performance, evaluating progress and implementation of their legacy activities and plans.
  • Work with PFP colleagues and markets to improve their legacy administration processes and maximize their returns.
  • Support markets to develop more advanced skills, knowledge, systems, and assets to enhance their legacy programs.
  • Support markets in developing relationships with key legacy partners.

Deliver on development of the UNICEF legacy community of practice activities, knowledge management, and support on building the legacy profile at UNICEF

  • Facilitating knowledge transfer and sharing and supporting the flow of ideas and innovation across the UNICEF legacy community via platforms and channels.
  • Coordination, planning, and delivery of fruitful learning experiences and events that seek to build the capabilities of legacy frontline fundraisers and the wider UNICEF fundraising community.
  • Developing and delivery of an internal communications plan and induction and training program for legacy fundraisers at UNICEF.
  • Design and lead the delivery of regular monthly video calls and coordinate regular peer-to-peer learning via marketing sharing.
  • Coordinate regular virtual skill share sessions and an overall supporting package of workshops, tools, and trainings.
  • Lead on any in-person legacy community workshop coordination.
  • Support the development of any assets that can be shared as a KM global resource, via the creation of manuals, toolkits, presentations, and cultivation of a central online resource for the UNICEF legacy community.
  • Set up mentoring and buddy experiences for those in the legacy community.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and analysis of the community offer, the level of participation, and satisfaction with events, with improvements added as necessary.
  • Support the internal communications approach for legacies by coordinating opportunities to create reach and engagement on the legacy offer for internal stakeholders.
  • Support the external profiling building to establish UNICEF as a legacy thought leader in the sector.
  • Tracking global developments in legacy fundraising across the sector and sharing fundraising trends and the latest techniques with the UNICEF legacy community.

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Marketing, Science, Communication, Fundraising, Business Administration, or another relevant field is required.
  • Alternatively, a first-level University Degree in a relevant field combined with (2) additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional fundraising experience is required.
  • Direct experience related to legacy fundraising is required.
  • Hands-on technical expertise in a dynamic mass market environment is required.
  • Fundraising experience in different markets is an asset.
  • Experience with a large organization working in a global context is an asset.
  • UN experience is an asset.
  • Agile ways of working and scrum methodology experience is an asset

Language requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Remarks:

UNICEF PFP-Geneva is currently reviewing organizational changes; therefore, the successful candidates may be asked to commence duties remotely, and they may later be asked to relocate and be assigned to the final post-duty station/location in Berlin.
