1. Background
Christian Aid (CA) is committed to promoting gender equality, protection, and inclusion across all its programs and operations. To strengthen our efforts and ensure that our interventions are effective and inclusive, we seek to engage a qualified consultant to provide expertise in gender, protection, and inclusion for a period of six months.
2. Objective
The primary objective of this consultancy is to enhance CA’s capacity to integrate gender, protection, and inclusion considerations into our programme and project cycle. The consultant will support the organization in developing strategies, guidelines, and tools, as well as providing training and technical assistance to staff and partners as required.
3. Scope
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
3.1 Assessment and Analysis
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current gender, protection, and inclusion practices within the organization
- Analyze existing policies, programs, and activities to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
- Provide a detailed report and plan with recommendations that she/he will put in motion for enhancing gender, protection, and inclusion.
3.2 Strategy Development
- Develop a gender, protection, and inclusion strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
- Create actionable plans and frameworks to operationalize the strategy across various departments and projects.
3.3 Capacity Building
- Design and deliver training sessions for staff on gender, protection, and inclusion.
- Develop training materials and resources tailored to the needs of the organization.
- Mentor and support staff in applying gender, protection, and inclusion principles in their work.
3.4 Policy and Guideline Development
- In collaboration with other gender advisors in the organisation, draft or revise policies and guidelines to integrate gender, protection, and inclusion considerations.
- Ensure that these policies and guidelines are practical, user-friendly, and aligned with international standards and best practices.
3.5 Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with relevant stakeholders, including, programme quality team members, programme staff, programme funding teams and partners to ensure their perspectives and needs are incorporated. While this is a consultancy position there will be a need to provide ad hoc support to country teams on proposal development team, as well as answering technical questions/requests from ongoing projects.
- Facilitate workshops and / or community of practice in Gender, Protection and/or inclusion as need it.
4. Deliverables
The consultant is expected to produce the following deliverables:
- Inception Report detailing the methodology and work plan.
- Assessment Report with findings and recommendations.
- Gender, Protection, and Inclusion Strategy document.
- Training materials and resources.
- Policy and guideline documents.
- Regular progress reports (monthly or bi-monthly).
- Final report summarizing achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
5. Duration
The consultancy will be for a period of six months with the possibility of extension for the work.
6. Consultant’s Qualifications and Experience
The ideal consultant should have the following qualifications and experience:
- Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, International Development, or related field.
- Substantive professional experience in gender, protection, and inclusion work, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
- Proven experience in strategy development, policy formulation, and capacity building.
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills in English. (In addition, French and Spanish language skills are desirable)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Knowledge of international standards and best practices related to gender, protection, and inclusion.
- Language requirement: Fluent English proficiency (French, Arab and/or Spanish desirable).
