With a fleet of 115 buses, operating out of two depots, and a team of 240 employees, we provide reliable service to thousands of passengers each day.Your roleWe are seeking a General Manager to lead our Central Fraser Valley public transit operations. As the General Manager, you will oversee all aspects of transit services, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of transportation to our community. You will lead a team of eight managers and 240 employees across various functions including driving, maintenance, dispatch, scheduling, and safety operations.Reporting to the Regional Vice-President, Operations, you will be a key player in achieving Transdev’s business objectives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prioritize safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment for all employees.
  • Lead and mentor management, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Ensure the effective management of day-to-day operations, including maintenance, dispatch, driving, scheduling, and safety.
  • Oversee all aspects of contractual services, including administrative tasks, operational management, information systems, parts procurement, and inventory control for our two sites in Abbotsford and Chilliwack.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company policies and procedures, while also ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Manage and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), addressing grievances, and facilitating open communication to resolve labor issues.
  • Manage budget allocations effectively and implement action plans to enhance operational efficiencies. Analyze, forecast, and manage budgets to meet organizational goals and objectives.
  • Preserve and maintain company and contractual assets, including vehicles, facilities, inventories, tools, and equipment.
  • Identify resource requirements, address operational issues, and develop strategic plans accordingly.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer retention and promote effective communication channels with clients.
  • Laise with our client BC Transit, to ensure we are delivering on our commitments and achieving the prescribed key performance targets.
  • Prioritize safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment for all employees.
  • Define training objectives and requirements for all personnel to ensure continuous skill development.
  • Meet client, corporate, and contractual reporting obligations accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide technical sales support and assist in developing sales leads to drive business growth.
  • Assist in any and all related operational requirements on site as needed.

Your profile

  • Minimum 7 years of operations management, transportation and logistics or similar experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict management, navigating and resolving conflicts proactively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience effectively managing union and non-union employees, including a comprehensive understanding of labor relations, CBAs, and the ability to foster positive working relationships with labor representatives.
  • University degree or equivalent operational experience.
