Dalhousie University

Established in 1818, Dalhousie is a leading research-intensive university offering more than 180 degree programs in 13 faculties. It is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and is located in the heart of Halifax, a scenic coastal city and capital of Nova Scotia, which is home to 13 Mi’kmaq First Nations, a deeply rooted historical African Canadian community, and an increasingly diverse population. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is a dynamic body of students, faculty, and staff arranged into upwards of twenty programs and departments, many offering graduate degrees.

The Dalhousie University German Department seeks applications for a one-year 100% full-time limited term appointment (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025) at the rank of Instructor in German language and culture. The Instructor will teach introductory and intermediate language and culture courses including Confronting Fascism. The workload is equivalent to eight 3-credit hour classes during the one-year period, including two 3-credit classes in the 2024/2025 summer term.

Applicants preferably should have a Ph.D. in German or comparative linguistics/language pedagogy. Applicants with an MA degree will be considered on an individual basis as well. Native or native-equivalent command of German and English and expertise in teaching the German language at the undergraduate level are required. The successful candidate will possess strong organizational and administrative skills and a commitment to fostering student engagement.
