Glasgow Wild Spaces Project Officer

Responsible To: Head of Engagement
Location: Home based with travel required throughout the project area (Glasgow)
Salary: £28,148 – £32,519, depending upon experience plus 8% employer pension contribution
Hours: 1.0 FTE, 37 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term (2 years) from January 2026

Job Purpose

1. Contribute to Butterfly Conservation’s ambitious 2021-2026 strategy – specifically the goal to
   transform Wild Spaces in the UK for people, butterflies and moths.
2. Deliver the aims and objectives of the Glasgow Wild Spaces Project.
3. Monitor and evaluate project delivery to ensure key outcomes are delivered.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of project activities as outlined in the project plan for Glasgow Wild
  Spaces. Key activities include:
  • 15 Wild Spaces (habitats for butterflies and moths) created and managed in public parks, in
    partnership with Glasgow City Council
  • 13 Wild Spaces in school grounds created in partnership with pupils and staff
  • 20 community groups/schools across the project area advised and supported on Wild Space
    creation/management
  • A programme of engagement and training events and workshops delivered for project partners and
    participants.
• Oversee the Glasgow Wild Spaces project budget to ensure appropriate and timely expenditure
  throughout the duration of the project.
• Work with colleagues in Scotland and with the Glasgow & SW Scotland Branch volunteers to
  support project delivery and share opportunities for volunteer engagement.
• Oversee an evaluation process to document project progress and collect and respond to feedback
  from project participants.
• Work with the finance team to meet funder reporting requirements across the duration of the
  project.
• Oversee contractors (where necessary) to create, manage and maintain the 15 Wild Spaces sites.
• Prepare and deliver training and support for volunteers to create and manage Wild Spaces and to
  assist with engagement activities.
• Create engagement and learning resources to support the delivery of project activities.
• With support from the Communications Team, identify suitable opportunities for publicising the
  project, promoting participation and acknowledging funders.
• Identify and liaise with local suppliers of trees, seeds, shrubs, plants and equipment.

General

Please note: this role requires membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme
managed by Disclosure Scotland. The successful applicant will be required to become a member of
the scheme before commencing employment.

We are looking for a passionate, engaging and dynamic individual to lead the delivery of our
Glasgow Wild Spaces project. The successful candidate will help transform public and community
spaces across Glasgow into havens for butterflies, moths and people. The project is being run
in partnership with Glasgow City Council and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
