Position description

Young Global Professionals joining the Global China Hub will help leverage the Atlantic Council’s values, extensive global network, and capacity for integrating insights and information across all our programs and centers to create a cross-cutting capability to better understand China’s activities in the world and frame responses to perhaps the greatest challenge of our times.

 

YGPs support outreach and logistics for public and private convenings; contribute to reports, papers, and memos; and assist with social media, and other tasks as needed. Reflecting many full-time roles in a think tank, the internship is a balance of operational, administrative, and technical support.

 

This internship is part-time (20 hours per week). The position is preferably based in our Washington, DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule, but could be fully remote for the right candidate. Interns will be paid at a rate of $17.50 per hour.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to support the activities of the Hub.  
  • Manage Global China Hub contacts and knowledge.
  • Draft correspondence and take notes at roundtables and strategy sessions for program archives.
  • Support logistical and operational functions of Global China Hub issues for program events and activities. 
  • Assist in development of policy briefs, blog posts, memos, articles, and other publications. 
  • Support development for the Hub as needed.
  • Conduct media outreach to promote the team’s events, publications, and writings.
  • In collaboration with teammates, creating and update content on its website using WordPress.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student or a recent graduate, preferably majoring in International Relations or a relevant field.
  • A demonstrated interest in the work of the Global China Hub (in your cover letter, please describe your interest in security, innovation, government, regional cooperation, politics, or a similar relevant topic in East Asia).
  • Comfort in a deadline-driven environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience with social media campaigns, website maintenance, email marketing, are highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written – live and virtual), including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Aptitude and strong skills in research, and writing, and logistics for events.
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills required. Significant experience with MS Office suite is required. Seeking applicants  for work on a part-time basis (20 hours per week).
  • Strong skills in Mandarin strongly preferred.
  • Experience living, working, or travelling in China or Taiwan a plus.
