Its primary purpose is to lead, develop and embed a new organisation responsible for driving GSK’s leadership in, and high-quality delivery of, medical and scientific communication. The new organisation will enable a step change in GSK medical communications.The new team will be accountable for the creation and delivery of industry leading scientific content and programmes to be used for internal and external channels and medical education programmes. This content will cover all Therapeutic Areas (TAs) and requires driving collaborative ways of working with the TAs (via the Global Medical Leads), priority markets, Publications, ABPI, Medical Information, Med Tech, and Congressing teams. The Global Head of Medical Communications will also be responsible for ongoing business/resource planning for the team, as well as managing agency partnerships for medical content development.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Content Planning

  • Lead a medical communications organisation that partners with the TAs to ensure TA delivery of scientific platform and core scientific statements for an asset, enabling TAs to create the asset scientific narrative consistent across the enterprise.
  • Lead an organisation of global medical affairs professionals, experienced in medical communications, medical education, and OMNI channel content delivery by ensuring deep scientific understanding of asset science and external landscape.
  • Foster and embed a new way of working with global medical publications and practices, setting standards on the importance of strategic publication planning and driving consistent ways of working across the enterprise.
  • Senior member of the Data Generation and Scientific Communications leadership team contributing to the department’s growth, annual and longer-term objective setting, succession planning and annual performance reviews.

Medical Education Content

  • Accountable for the delivery of high quality medical/scientific content and resources across all TAs to provide our external stakeholders an industry leading experience with GSK medical.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for global medical congress to support data/scientific presence.
  • Ensures close alignment on our data communications between TA, global publications, med Tech, and medical information presenting a single source of scientific truth to customers/stakeholders.
  • Accountable for internal scientific communications and congress training in partnership with the TAs around new and key scientific data on disease areas of interest to stakeholders (field medical).

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build, grow and evolve a medical communications organisation integrated within the complex matrix of Global Medical Affairs that serves as a trusted strategic partner to the business.
  • Build strong trusted relationships based on demonstrable outputs by engaging across the matrix and with all partners.
  • Partner with TA senior leaders, global publications, Med Tech, GMLT, and priority markets in the development of medical education strategies aligned to GSK priorities.
  • Seeks relevant scientific / medical insight from stakeholder groups to ensure excellence in the medical communications delivery, process and quality.

EE Engagement

  • Partner with the TA (GML) in the development of collaborations with professional societies in medical education programmes and initiatives.

Compliance & Regulatory Adherence

  • Accountable with key stakeholders to ensure medical education activities comply with relevant regulations, GSK code, industry guidelines, and ethical standards. Ensuring timely review/approval and posting of content on the appropriate channels. Develop and implement an OMNI channel content strategy for assigned TAs to drive impact of our publications.
  • Maintain in depth knowledge of Med Comms trends, external landscape, and stay abreast of country regulations and guidance that impact digital delivery of scientific information to external HCPs.

Evaluation & Reporting

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of robust metrics and tools, meticulously designed to gauge the impact of medical education content and programs. This pivotal role demands a keen focus on demonstrating effectiveness while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, thereby ensuring the highest standards in GSK medical communications
  • International travel expected

25%.Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • Postgraduate degree: Masters, PhD, PharmD, or MD.
  • Experience in a leadership role at country (in a large, prioritized market) and ‘above country’ level Medical Affairs
  • Experience of leading teams larger than 20 people
  • Experience of Medical Education Programs
  • Experience of omnichannel strategies
  • Experience of Content planning, development and delivery
  • Experience of Integrated Data Communications
  • Experience of negotiating appropriate needs and strategies to ensure trusted and strong partnerships between medical communications and the business.
  • Experience of impactful leadership that engages, brings acceleration and develops people.
  • Experience of presenting to both internal and external audiences.
  • Experience of promotional codes/regulations; previous involvement in ABPI review and approval processes.
  • Experience of Copy Approval requirements.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • ABPI signatory status
  • US market experience
  • Familiarity with existing GSK platforms (e.g., Content Lab, Team Site, Workday, MS Teams and GSK intranet)
