Danish Red Cross (DRC) is looking for an experienced humanitarian to join our health team and work to help people affected by disasters and crises live healthy lives and access quality essential health services.
About the position and the assignments
The specific purpose of the position is to provide strategic guidance, expertise and support to health in emergencies operations, in line with needs and established technical standards, protocols and good practices. The technical support to response operations will be provided both from DRC HQ and through the deployment to the field, often at a short notice.
The Global Health Advisor will be a part of the International Department of DRC and will report directly to the Head of Technical Quality & Impact (TQI) Unit on overall HR issues and will have a technical reference line to the Health Lead for coordination of tasks and technical aspects of work. When providing support to DRC-supported operations in specific countries, the Global Health Advisor will report to the DRC Country Managers on security and other issues pertaining to the mission in point, and s/he must coordinate closely and flexibly with the guidance of the country team.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Technical Support and Guidance: provide (onsite or remotely) evidence-based guidance and advice to DRC Country Offices (COs) and National Societies (NSs) on health service delivery models, ensuring alignment with global standards and good practices related to health in emergency (including outbreaks and epidemics). Compile and roll out essential evidence-based frameworks/technical guidelines and tools for health in emergency, ensuring the adherence to integrating programming approach.
- Program Monitoring and Evaluation: support planning and undertake assessments, baselines, endlines, reviews and evaluations, and support setting up and management of health information system (HIS).
- Support DRC COs and Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) NSs to identify public health priorities and incorporate public health interventions within each stage of the emergency cycle, including support in preparation and quality assurance of project applications and planning and implementation of project activities.
- Surge / deployments as needed and when possible, both to DRC-supported country operations or for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) often at short notice and/or as a part of first rotation.
- Strengthening of Capacities: work closely with the RCRC NSs to support their capacity strengthening plans and initiatives through training, mentoring, and resource development aimed at strengthening of health response readiness and enhancing the quality and resilience of healthcare services in emergency (including outbreaks and epidemics).
- Strategic Planning and Direction: contribute to defining and rolling out of DRC’s strategic directions and approaches within the health sector with a specific focus on health in emergency (including preparedness and response to outbreaks and epidemics).
- Advocacy: support DRC’s policy influencing, advocacy and humanitarian diplomacy efforts on health in emergency.
- Resource Mobilization: support proposal development by contributing to the design of health project proposals that align with donor priorities and organisational goals.
Your profile
We are looking for a professional with at least five years’ experience with health in emergency interventions (including outbreaks and epidemics) in protracted and acute crises. You have proven experience and strong skills in project management, project proposal development, reporting, assessments, reviews, and evaluations of health in emergency interventions. You have experience in developing strategies, approaches and tools related to health in emergency (including outbreaks and epidemics) as well as training materials and/or facilitating trainings of teams. You are interested in innovative approaches and solutions in addressing health sector challenges. You have excellent English and French language skills. You are a good communicator and a team player, but also structured, systematic and good at meeting deadlines. You have strong self-management skills and are available for field missions on a short notice, including for emergency response. The position requires flexibility and up to three-four months of travel/missions per year.
We offer
The position is located at the Danish Red Cross Head Quarter offices in Copenhagen with up to three – four months a year travels/missions. The position is a full-time position 37 hours per week.
Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargain agreement with AC.
It is an HQ position, and the salary package does not include family or housing allowances. The position is 24 months with possibility for extension.
