Jordan Olympic Committee:

The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) is the governing body for sports in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Founded in 1957, the JOC became the nurturing body for 34 Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations in the kingdom, laying down the foundation and trail to develop and rise up with the state of sports in Jordan.

  • Careful planning led by HRH Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein enabled the JOC to develop the sports scene in Jordan with both consistency and vision positioning Jordan as a key, medal winning participant in all the major sports events both regionally and internationally .
  • Administrative efforts by the JOC were praised by the international sports community pinpointing Jordan as a healthy and worthy host for numerous Arab, Asian and international sporting events and championships such as the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2016.
  • Recognizing Jordan’s efforts in reshaping and bettering the sports scene both regionally and internationally, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) was elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2010 among other honorary positions.
  • Given the role played and demonstration of the highest levels of commitment to sports betterment, Dr Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) named the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) in “the world’s Top 10%” Olympic Committees, cementing the Jordan Olympic Committee and its efforts as a role model raising standards in the sports world and a key player in the future of sports.

Job Summary

The Governance Department Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the regulations and policies adopted by the JOC, and for applying principles of good governance within the National Federations Relations Department. This includes monitoring administrative and organizational procedures, ensuring transparency in financial and administrative operations within sports federations, and providing legal and technical support and advice to federations. The officer also reviews relevant policies and regulations and updates them periodically in coordination with federations. The role involves promoting a culture of governance within federations to ensure efficiency and adherence to the highest ethical and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that sports federations comply with adopted regulations, policies, and bylaws in line with the laws, instructions, and strategic goals of Jordanian sports.
  • Ensure the application of governance principles in administrative and financial operations within sports federations.
  • Assist federations in updating and reviewing their policies and bylaws to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide periodic reports to the department manager on the federations’ adherence to good governance standards based on performance indicators outlined in the relevant governance manual.
  • Conduct internal audits to verify the effectiveness of administrative and financial systems in federations.
  • Provide legal and technical support and advice to federations to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Ensure that contracts and agreements made with federations comply with the applicable laws and regulations, in coordination with the direct supervisor.
  • Attend meetings of federations’ boards of directors and provide feedback.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in governance.
  • Proficiency in using computer software and Microsoft Office programs for preparing reports and documents.
  • Proficiency in English.

Professional Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of good governance principles such as transparency, accountability, and integrity.
  • Ability to interpret local and international sports laws and understand how to apply them in sports federations.
  • Ability to analyze federations’ policies and regulations and provide recommendations for improving governance.
  • Skills in conducting internal audits to verify compliance with policies and organizational procedures.
  • Ability to write comprehensive and detailed reports on governance evaluations and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Effective negotiation skills to work with different parties and ensure the effective application of regulations.

Personal Competencies

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to explain and clarify governance policies to different stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to rapid changes in the work environment and succeed in diverse situations.
  • High attention to detail in monitoring systems and procedures to ensure proper governance implementation.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with internal and external parties involved in governance implementation.
  • Ability to work independently with intrinsic motivation to achieve outstanding results and innovate in improving procedures.
