ePURE, the European renewable ethanol association, seeks a Government Affairs Manager to join its dynamic Brussels-based team and lead important work on energy and climate, transport, environment policies, trade and customs issues.

The successful candidate’s primary focus will be to defend the interests of the European renewable ethanol producers to ensure their inclusion in EU renewable energy and climate policies. The manager will also be expected to support the Director of Government Affairs in matters related to EU and national renewable energy and climate policies and legislation. The position requires a good working knowledge of the EU decision-making process and the ability to acquire a solid understanding of the ethanol and biofuels industry at national and EU level.

ePURE is the association representing the European renewable ethanol industry. Our 43 members, including 20 producing companies throughout 16 EU Member States & the UK, account for around 85% of the renewable ethanol production in Europe.

Mission

Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs, the GA manager will be required to:

  • Identify emerging issues and keep members informed about the development of current EU legislative proposals and policies relevant to ePURE, with a focus on renewable energy and climate policies;
  • Conduct policy research, analysis and evaluation of the impact of EU initiatives on the biofuels and ethanol industry;
  • Convert information into solid memos and position papers, briefings, letters, working documents, presentations and other relevant documents;
  • Monitor the implementation of EU energy and climate policies and legislation at national level;
  • Ensure dialogue with EU key decision-makers (including the Commission, the Parliament, the Council) and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Coordinate and exchange information with members, among members and between members and EU Institutions;
  • Maintain a constant network with national contact points on relevant topics and organise and run dedicated meetings, prepare supporting material, draft minutes;
  • Represent ePURE in meetings in the European institutions and with other stakeholders;
  • Participate in ePURE Board meetings, General Assembly and in other ePURE events.

Required qualifications and skills

  • University degree in public policies, political science, EU or environmental policies or others;
  • From 3 to 5 years of relevant experience. preferably in an EU institution, industry, think tank, NGO;
  • Knowledge of EU institutions policy and decision-making process;
  • Excellent English (written and spoken); an additional EU language is desired;
  • Ability to convey technical issues in simple terms, confidence in public speaking;
  • Ability and willingness to build networks among a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Project management skills, including ability to manage meetings, keep deadlines;
  • Right to live and work in Belgium.
