Circularise is a supply chain traceability company. Our mission is it to make sure no materials are wasted due to the lack of information about the composition of end-of-life products. We enable circular economy by using software to safely and track product life cycles, create digital product passports and proof sustainability claims.  We are looking for a Government Affairs Manager with experience in the field of political communication and external relations in the field of sustainability, circular economy, IT,  the chemical or polymer industry or any related field. 

What will you be working on?

You will work on Circularise’s engagement in political processes of the European Union and industry associations. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing engagement opportunities and creating a process for engagement. You will get to follow decision making processes on key legislation in Brussels and translate their results into manageable input for the whole company. Given that this role is the first position in government affairs at Circularise, there are great opportunities for you to strategically set up this work and process at Circularise. You will be regularly spending a day in Brussels to engage in events and improve the visibility of Circularise.

Scope and responsibilities

  1. Advocacy Relationship Management (65%): Setting up and executing upon the engagement strategy and management Circularise’s relations with governmental institutions e.g. European Commission & selective national governments, relevant industry associations and standard bodies e.g. such as Catena-X, WBCSD, UNECE, WEF . The aim of these activities will be to gather insights and advocate for technological solutions, and their adoption, that promote sustainable supply chain transparency, accountability for environmental impacts across the value chain, promotion of sustainable best practices, and ultimately the reduction of the environmental footprint of supply chains to promote a more sustainable future. 
  1. Sector expertise (25%): Perform in-depth research on sustainability legislation, certifications, and standards to analyse the impact of these regulations on our business, product offering. Support the Head of EU research & governance and the head of Sustainable Innovation to prepare reports, presentations and business cases to communicate sustainability initiatives and progress of legislation, certifications, and standards to internal and external stakeholders. This is pivotal for the preparation of business strategies and actionable insights that will support Circularise’s growth and our ability to support our customers and enable the circular supply chain transition.  
  2. EU Research projects (10%): research and project management activities in EU research projects of Circularise.
Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in government relations/ public relations/ policy analysis with focus on European or national politics.
  • Demonstrable understanding & knowledge of the broader context of sustainability / Circular economy including key legislation, frameworks, and international commitments. You are not expected to be an expert in all ESG areas but should have expertise in specific relevant content areas (e.g. climate, nature/ biodiversity, land/use deforestation, Sustainable supply chains etc.)
  • Ideally a Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Impeccable organizational and intercultural skills
  • You are a great communicator (both written and verbal) and collaborator.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. You are a self-starter who gets excited about the opportunity to launch this work yourself
  • Excellent project management skills, with superb attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, organize own work, and deliver with high quality against tight timelines
  • Experience working with multi-stakeholder projects or groups; especially in an international setting
  • Fluent English on a professional level (written & spoken).
  • You are a structured thinker who is able to put concepts and idea on paper and explain them from different points of view
  • You are able to travel 10-15% (approx. 8 one-night stays a year within the EU)
