What does a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer in Transport do?

Plays a critical role in assessing and designing ground-related aspects of transport infrastructure projects, such as roads, highways, railways, tunnels, and bridges. While each day brings new challenges, the following activities are typically carried out:

  • Undertake site investigations utilising various techniques; boreholes, testpitting, CPT and more to determine subsurface ground profiles to aid designs of various elements.

  • Conduct site visits to observe and monitor construction activities, providing valuable insights for ongoing design projects.

  • Assesses soil, rock and groundwater compositions from compiled fieldwork data, presenting interpolation of data for use in design.

  • Participates in design of earthworks, earth retaining structures, pavements, foundations for roads, bridges and tunnels, utilising industry-standard software such as gINT, Geo-studio and Plaxis to create and modify engineering models.

  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and other essential engineering documentation.

  • Participate in meetings with clients and other consultants, and contractors to facilitate effective project coordination.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering

  • Passion for learning and problem-solving

  • Eligible to work in Australia

  • Currently in final year of degree or 1-2 years post graduation
