Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition
In Q4 2024, DAI were awarded and started the £100M, FCDO funded Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition (COAST) program. COAST will support small scale fisheries, sustainable aquaculture, and protect critical marine habitats in the priority countries of Mozambique, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.
DAI’s vision for COAST is “to revolutionise coastal and marine ecosystem management through a pioneering approach that uniquely combines local community empowerment with national reform and global advocacy.” We will seek to integrate cutting-edge technologies to address marine and coastal challenges, focusing on scalable, transformative solutions for across our interventions. COAST will be led by our UK based Project Management Unit and implemented by teams in each of the 4 COAST priority countries.
To deliver COAST’s vision, DAI will provide technical assistance and grants:
- COAST’s technical assistance will support governance frameworks to enable sustainable marine and coastal management. This includes developing inclusive, resilient, and long-term policies aligned with global biodiversity and climate goals.
- COAST’s grants will empower communities to lead conservation efforts while fostering sustainable livelihoods and ensure that biodiversity benefits directly reach local populations, bridging conservation with economic opportunity.
Grants Manager Roles and Responsibilities
DAI is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Grants Manager to join our COAST team to oversee COAST’s Grants Portfolio. This is a full time role based in DAI’s offices in London or Apsley working closely with the COAST Project Management Unit and the Country Teams. The role will support the Grant Managers in each country providing technical and management support to build a diverse grants portfolio across the priority countries. This role will have responsibility for building up and managing our COAST grant portfolio whilst offering opportunity to grow and learn new skills across a dynamic and diverse programme.
Grant competitions and management:
- Oversee grant competition processes including initiation and promotion to maximise grant applicants and facilitate transparent and efficient evaluation processes.
- Oversee grantee due diligence and contracting processes in collaboration with the Country Teams; providing quality assurance and surge capacity.
- Oversee Grantee compliance and reporting in collaboration with the Country Grant Managers, supporting on reporting, document and data collection.
- Review quarterly narrative and results reports by grantees; identifying progress against targets at individual grant level as well as monitoring progress across the grant portfolio.
- Oversee change requests and grant amendment request processes including financial and programmatic changes, tracking due diligence and monitoring requirements.
Grant portfolio management & learning:
- Monitor overall progress across the Grant Portfolio and support the development of grantee feedback loops to identify programmatic improvements and identify capacity building requirements for applicants and grantees; developing and delivering capacity building modules for applicants and grantees;
- Utilise learning and feedback from Grantees for improvements to future Grant competition cycles and grant management tools, and feeding into COAST Learning Cycles;
- Regularly review COAST’s portfolio of grant projects to deliver impact through identifying where to scale, and where delivery gaps are emerging.
With the in-country Grant Managers, MEL and GEDSI teams, ensure comprehensive reporting for COAST including analysis against all COAST Logframe and Cross-Cutting themes and targets and providing comprehensive inputs for COAST Programme reporting.
