We are seeking a Head of Automation and Data Science to deliver the Chemical Development automation and digital strategy across our entire portfolio.As a leader within our Chemical Development organisation, you will be instrumental in advancing our end-to-end automation platforms and digital technologies. This is a unique opportunity to lead a large department of technology specialists and process/chemical modelers, providing a deep understanding of batch and continuous processes leading to acceleration of process development phases and improvement of current WoW.Accountabilities:Your responsibilities will include delivering AstraZeneca’s goals in laboratory automation and data science, evolving a cutting-edge multidisciplinary workflow, and leading SMEs in the application of machine learning for hit identification and process optimisation in a high-throughput experimentation (HTE) setting. You will also support the development of new modular automation and orchestration systems into the developing AZ IT-OT framework and industrial internet of things (IIOT).Essential Skills/Experience:– PhD or equivalent number of years of experience in an Engineering, Computer Science, Automation or Data Management related field
– Significant experience and knowledge within domain
– A blend of data architecture, analysis, practical operations experience and engineering skills
– Experience of industrial automation platforms
– Experience in process modelling, process simulations and digital twins
– Awareness of Engineering data systems and life-cycle management
– Experience in Modelling of modules
– Change Management background
– Experience in the use of data modeling technologies including the use of metadata cataloguing tools
