Hours: Full time, hybrid working

Salary: this role sits outside the University grading system but equates to a Level 9 role

About FME

FME Ltd (formerly Fitzwilliam Museum Enterprises Ltd) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Cambridge which is responsible for commercial activities including retail, ecommerce, wholesale, licensing, and product sourcing.

The Role

The Head of Brand Licensing (HBL) has overall responsibility for the licensing channel of the company. 

Reporting to the CEO, the HBL is responsible the management of licensing activities relating to the University brand and the collections of the University of Cambridge Museums and Botanic Garden, the Cambridge University Library and other IP rights including the Boat Race.

Duties

  • Managing licensee and licensing agent relationships
  • Developing licensing strategies and plans
  • Develop new business opportunities for the University brand and the collections
  • Oversee product approvals
  • Negotiate new licensing deals and manage existing deals
  • Deal with licensee/agent issues relating to contracts and royalties
  • Liaise with University departments on any relevant matters
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required.

The Candidate

We’re looking for candidates who have strong consumer products experience ideally including university brand licensing and cultural enterprise.

They must have a deep understanding of licensing for consumer products and demonstrate a track record of delivering licensing deal flow.

The candidate should have experience in product development processes, have a flair for creative thinking around identifying new business development opportunities.

While this is an FME role, University of Cambridge applicants can maintain continuity of employment and participation in existing University pension scheme.  The company operates a bonus scheme.
