We are now looking for a Head of Global Climate Law, Policy and Governance Programme to join our team on a full-time basis for an 18-month fixed-term contract to cover a period of maternity, working 35 hours per week.

The Role

As our Head of Global Climate Law, Policy and Governance Programme, you will design, deliver and provide strategic direction to our programme of work on Global Climate Law, Policy and Governance.

You’ll ensure equity in global decision-making processes as well as the implementation of the Paris agreement, with a focus on the LDC Group, promoting LDC leadership, ownership and agency.

Supporting our funding strategies, you’ll mobilise funds to sustain the delivery of the programme, assisting with the development of proposals and building relationships with existing and potential partners and donors.

Additionally, you will:

– Direct the development and implementation of ongoing programmes of work and new research agendas
– Support the development of strategic communication strategies
– Coach and line manage a number of staff
– Provide oversight of budgets, monitoring and reporting

About You

To be considered as our Head of Global Climate Law, Policy and Governance Programme, you will need:

– Substantive experience in multilateral decision-making processes, or other relevant area of work
– Experience of providing high-level strategic advice in the context of climate diplomacy
– Experience of securing funds for capacity strengthening and technical assistance projects with partners from the global south
– Strong people management skills
– An excellent understanding of UNFCCC negotiations and operationalisation of the LDC Group in the UN
– An understanding of capacity building, climate finance and gender dimensions of global decision-making processes
– An understanding of legal and policy issues relating to climate action at the global and national levels
– Excellent understanding of climate diplomacy
– Strong networks and relationships with LDC Governments/ UNFCCC focal points
– A post-graduate degree in international law, international relations, international development, global governance and diplomacy (or a related field) or other relevant experience

Please note, this role requires the ability to travel to UNFCCC conferences and related meetings and work out of hours on occasion to attend UNFCCC-mandated virtual meetings in different global time zones

IIED is a hybrid working organisation and you are likely to be working from home most of the time. As such, you will need a suitable place to work and a reliable, fast internet connection.
