About us The UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences (FPHS) is a global leader in public health research working across disciplines to unravel complex health challenges, while educating the next generation of public and global health leaders. Our exciting cross-disciplinary community encompasses eight academic departments, with a considerable number of laboratories and research facilities across the Bloomsbury campus.About the role We are seeking a Head of Laboratory Operations.This role reports to the GOSH ICH Institute Manager with dotted line reporting to the Faculty Director of Operations.Academic and research staff in the faculty generate the funding for our research by setting out proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminating the results of our research by publication in medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public.The post holder will be working in continuous dialogue with stakeholders including principal investigators, postdoctoral researchers, PhD students and other scientific staff to achieve world-class innovative solutions to tackle the most challenging questions.The laboratory operations team manages multiple infrastructure activities including effective management of lab space for these staff, overseeing Health and Safety and risk assessment, HDA compliance, purchasing of laboratory equipment and consumables, management of CL3 and core scientific facilities and overseeing strategy for sustainability in the labs.About you We welcome applications for candidates who have a Good Honours degree or relevant professional qualification in a relevant subject and substantial level of experience of working in a research laboratory.NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) and Radio Protection Supervision trained is essential.Candidates must have excellent organisation and communication skills.
