This is a key role, where you’ll lead the strategic direction of research partnerships with national and international organisations.What will I be doing?Lead the strategic direction of research partnerships with national and international organisations from across the non-commercial and academic research sectors, in line with CRUK’s overarching research strategyLead and inspire the Strategic Partnerships Team (Non-Commercial) to provide relationship management, transactional and project management support to teams across R&I – identifying, scoping and prioritising new partnership opportunities to support key research priorities across the directorateMaintain strong relationships with existing partners, identifying opportunities to expand these, or mirror models with other partnersScope options to increase breadth, depth and impact of R&I non-commercial partnership activities by driving exploratory discussions and relationship building activities with new organisations and territoriesBuild and manage effective, influential relationships with the non-commercial research funding community, including medical research charities and government agencies, to identify and develop partnership opportunitiesLiaise with other funding agencies and maintain oversight of the external research partnership environment to provide senior leadership with awareness of developments that may impact CRUK, including identifying recommendations for new and extended partnershipsRepresent CRUK at relevant national and international meetingsWork across R&I to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to our non-commercial research partnership activities, identifying key areas of change, opportunities for improvement and overcoming barriers to ensure maximum value addedWork across departments and directorates to ensure effective coordination with other CRUK partnership functions to facilitate delivery of CRUK’s wider partnership agenda, particularly including close collaboration with colleagues in the commercial partnerships, Cancer Grand Challenges and philanthropy teamsOwn and manage the Strategic Partnerships (Non-Commercial) team budget and ensure tracking and monitoring of team delivery against its objectives as agreed for each annual operating planA commitment to the importance of increasing equality, diversity and inclusion in our research portfolio and in our own workforceWhat skills are we looking for?In depth knowledge of the UK and international cancer research funding landscapeSignificant experience of identifying and securing high value strategic research partnerships with organisations across multiple sectors, both nationally and internationallyPhD (or equivalent experience) in life sciences / medical researchExcellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with experience of managing relationships with a range of senior internal and external stakeholders in the charitable and academic sectorProactive, strategic thinker who spots opportunities with a proven ability to translate this into operational plansStrong and motivating leadership skills, with experience of leading a teamExcellent presentation skills with experience of presenting to national and international audiencesExperience of managing a diverse portfolio of projects involving stakeholders from multiple teamsStrong influencing and networking skillsA strong advocate and implementor of cross-organisational workingExperience of managing finances and resources of a significant budgetExperience of working with legal advisors to put in place contracts and working within accepted legal frameworksAbility to build trust and work discreetly with confidential and sensitive materialWhat will I gain?Every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer.
