MPS/UPS (£36,745- £56,959) + TLR 1BThis is a superb and exciting opportunity for an ambitious, enthusiastic and committed Head of Year to join us from September 2024.The Head of Year role is a hugely important one, not least in the opportunity it presents to shape the collective identity of a year group. Heads of Year accompany their year group of around 240 students on their journey through the school. This allows the Head of Year to build strong links with the student body and facilitates the fostering of close links with parents and carers of students who recognise this person as an important point of contact at the academy. Heads of Year are responsible for the overall academic performance and pastoral wellbeing of the students in the year group. Safeguarding of students is the responsibility of all staff, but is a core responsibility of a Head of Year. The appointee will undertake training to enable them to do this effectively and will carry out this aspect of the role with diligence.They undertake this role in collaboration with the team of tutors they lead, with the Pastoral Support Leader designated to their year group and with all those who are charged with the academic progress and welfare of students.The successful Head of Year is ambitious for the students in their care, resilient and able to balance competing demands on their time. They will recognise the importance of timely and professional communication with colleagues and parents and carers. They are inspiring role-models, whom students will respect, and who will work collegially within the structures of the academy. The Heads of Year will be aligned with the vision and values of Future Academies and be committed to supporting the Principal and senior leadership team in the delivery of a truly transformative education for students. They are confident public speakers, intuitive and emotionally intelligent, and committed to the wellbeing of students. Heads of Year are also inspirational, outstanding teachers who teach their subject specialism within one of the academy’s academic departments.Qualifications:

  • Qualified to at least degree level in the subject being taught.
  • Qualified to teach in the UK.
  • Qualified to work in the UK.
  • QTS or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Ability to deliver consistently outstanding lessons in this subject to students of all ages and abilities.
  • Proven record of significantly raising achievement with all groups of students across the age and ability range and of helping them achieve impressive examination outcomes.
  • Proven commitment to continued professional development and a readiness to reflect and self evaluate to change, improve and develop.
