The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, and Shared Health Manitoba invite applications for the position of Head of the Section of Hepatology.

The Section of Hepatology is one of 19 academic sections in the Department of Internal Medicine providing patient care, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education, research. The section’s 10 faculty members actively collaborate with scientists from other sections, departments and institutions across Canada and beyond.

This is a geographical, full-time, contingent position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor, with a start date of July 1, 2024, or negotiable based on the successful candidate’s availability, for a term of five years, renewable upon favourable review. Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate, based at the Health Sciences Center, will lead a group of academic hepatologists in a busy and expanding liver disease program and report to the Head, Department of Internal Medicine and Provincial Specialty Lead Internal Medicine. They will have proven leadership abilities and administrative skills and shown interests in furthering undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education in Hepatology. A track record of continuing productivity in lab-based, translational, and/or investigator driven clinical research in Hepatology and demonstrated collaboration within and outside their current department/institution are assets.

Candidates must demonstrate broad experience in clinical management of liver diseases (including pre- and post-transplant), and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. The successful candidate must have an MD degree or both MD and PhD degrees. Candidates must have Senior Specialty qualifications with Internal Medicine and Hepatology in the country of current practice.
