DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT
2.1 Global objective
The aim of this technical assistance is to build the capacity of local stakeholders (including women and indigenous peoples) on the VPA, in view of achieving its successful implementation in Guyana and in keeping with the EU FLEGT’s principles of inclusivity and the EU and Guyana Government’s commitment to sustainable forest management.
2.2 Specific objective(s)
The specific objectives of this contract are as follows:
· To provide institutional strengthening and training for Guyana Timber Legality Assurance System (GTLAS) agencies, including capturing and archiving relevant information for the VPA.
· To provide capacity building/training to Forest Sector Operators (FSOs) in those areas, which will allow for greater GTLAS compliance, such as fiscal and environmental requirements as captured in the VPA Legality Definition (LD).
· To conduct studies that will help understand existing gaps and subsequently support VPA implementation by ensuring that all stakeholders are fairly treated and included in the VPA implementation.
LOCATION AND DURATION
4. Location
Normal place of posting of the specific assignment: The normal place of posting of this specific assignment is Georgetown, Guyana. While most activities will be conducted in the capital city, Georgetown, some activities will require field trips to the interior/hinterland regions. In the normal place of posting, Georgetown, no per diems are paid to the experts.
Mission(s) outside the normal place of posting and duration(s): 1 mission to the interior/ hinterland of Guyana of approximately 33 working days.
5. Start date and period of implementation
The indicative start date is 08/08/2023, and the period of implementation of the contract will be 16 Months from this date (indicative end date: 30/11/2024).

KEY Expert 1 – Gender:
Expert category: Cat. III (>3 years of experience)
Qualifications and skills required:
Has a university degree in medical sciences or, in its absence, a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field together with equivalent professional experience of 3 years, which must be above the general professional experience duration fixed below.
General professional experience:
· At least 3 years of experience in capacity building of government and non-government stakeholders and private sector actors in the field of Health and Safety.
· Specific professional experience:
· Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication;
· Familiar with health safety risks in the forest sector and associated measures to mitigate these risks;
· Familiar with legal frameworks related to health and safety and industry standards;
· Demonstrated experience in delivering training in multicultural contexts in developing countries
Language skills: Native or fully proficient English speaker
