The stage has been set for Women’s to accelerate our priorities and capture the momentum to catapult our system forward to revolutionize healthcare for everyone.Applicants must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario.Job DescriptionThe Health Equity Specialist at Women’s College Hospital (WCH is responsible for leading, implementing and coordinating health equity and inclusion initiatives to support the hospital’s strategic priority to Move the Needle on Health Equity. This role will identify and address access barriers and health disparities amongst our patient population in collaboration with patients, community partners and clinical service providers. The Health Equity Specialist will play a key role in:

  • Helping WCH achieve health equity in partnership with communities as well as building trusted, just, inclusive environments across care, learning and discovery
  • Advancing objectives in the Equity Roadmap
  • The collection and reporting of patient demographic data which will be used to support clinical and corporate decision making at the hospital

Job Duties

  • Build a sustainable approach to regularly capture patient demographic data through the We Ask Because We Care (WABWC) survey, ensuring data is used to identify disparities, inform strategies to improve access to care and support equitable healthcare delivery
  • Identify trends around health disparities and access barriers among equity deserving patient populations for corporate reporting
  • Conduct research to identify health disparities affecting equity-deserving populations
  • and develop strategies and solutions to address these gaps, improving access to equitable healthcare
  • Provide internal advising and consultation to equity-focused committees to help identify key health disparities, areas of need, and support the development of community outreach models aimed at addressing those gaps.
  • Support a Patient Advisory Circle comprised of stakeholders from diverse, equity deserving populations, including patients, caregivers and community members, to provide ongoing input on healthcare services and identify opportunities to enhance care for equity deserving groups
  • Provide consulting advice to organization on equity related issues
  • Develop and implement action plans based on the analysis of engagement survey results, addressing key concerns and opportunities for improvement, ensuring that feedback from equity-deserving groups is incorporated
  • Supporting other health equity initiatives as required

  • Undergraduate degree in Equity Studies, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Social Justice, Social Work, Public Health or Health Administration; Graduate Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years in the development and successful implementation of equity, inclusion and anti-racism policies, programs and projects within a large public sector organization
  • Project Management Certification preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health equity principles and strategies, population health and the Social Determinants of Health
  • Experience working in a hospital and/or healthcare sector is an asset
  • Experience working with equity deserving groups to improve access to services
  • Ability to identify, build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience developing evaluation tools to measure and monitor the effectiveness of programs and initiatives
  • Strong time management skills as well as experience prioritizing and working in a dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational, research and evaluative skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience in public speaking, presentations and group facilitation
  • Experience creating presentations and briefing notes
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Professional and virtual collaboration/platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-racism, accessibility, reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and human rights
