Position Summary
The Morehouse School of Medicine is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Health Informatician to support and assist with electronic medical records (EMRs), electronic health records (EHRs), and medical report data acquisition, clean-up, structuring, and analysis for Precision Medicine Implementation studies in gynecologic cancers. The candidate will play an integral role in assisting other data scientists as well as implementing and maintaining health information systems to ensure seamless and secure access to, and utilization of clinical data. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an ability to collect, clean, and structure real-world data from EMRs, EHRs, and physician reports and will possess an understanding of the specific needs and requirements of the study.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Manage and analyze large-scale clinical data sets, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and security.
Collaborate with researchers to design and develop biomedical and health informatics solutions and data models that support the objectives of precision medicine studies.
Maintain data standards, ontologies, and metadata frameworks in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Extract and structure real-world data from electronic medical records and physician reports for use in the research study.
Ensure adherence to data standards, ontologies, and metadata frameworks in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Assist with data visualization and communication of complex data to various stakeholders.
Contribute to the drafting of manuscripts, reports, and grants, as well as present findings at scientific meetings and conferences.
Monitor emerging technologies and methodologies in health informatics.
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS , & ABILITIES :
Clinical Data: Deep understanding of clinical data, including data structures, standards, and ontologies.
Health Informatics: Knowledge of health informatics principles and practices, including data extraction, cleaning, structuring, and management.
Regulations and Ethics: Familiarity with regulatory and ethical aspects of clinical research, including Good Clinical Practice ( GCP ) guidelines, Institutional Review Board ( IRB ) procedures, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ( HIPAA ) regulations. Awareness of ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines associated with the use and sharing of clinical and research data.
Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data and transform it into usable information.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with electronic medical record systems would be advantageous. Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL , and comfortable working with big data technologies and tools.
Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Can develop innovative solutions to overcome research challenges.
Ethical Conduct: Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive patient and research data. Upholds ethical standards and complies with all regulations applicable to clinical research.
Continuous Learning: Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Keeps up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of biomedical and health informatics and clinical research.

This position may be responsible for supervising students and interns within the project.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Health Informatics degree or a related field.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience working with clinical data, particularly in a research or healthcare setting.
Familiarity with programming languages e.g., R, Python, SQL .
Experience with big data management tools.
Familiarity with EHR data standards, data integration, and the ethical/legal considerations surrounding data usage.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
MS Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
