Join our team today!Job DescriptionThe Health Justice Specialist reports to the Director, People-Centred Care and Health Justice.Accountabilities:

  • Implementing health justice goals, objectives and deliverables within the organization
  • Identifying and pursuing appropriate mechanisms for hospital and community engagement
  • Providing patient education and health literacy leadership
  • Managing interpretation and translation services
  • Implementing social determinants of health data collection and reporting to support patient care plans and program planning
  • Identifying and addressing hospital and system barriers for access to services for equity deserving patient populations
  • Supporting development and sustainability of a health justice workplan, inclusive of a truth and reconciliation roadmap
  • Supporting Osler’s response to addressing anti-Black racism and anti-Indigenous racism
  • Partnering with Organizational Development regarding equity, diversity and inclusion educational offerings to staff and physicians
  • Assist individuals and programs to understand health justice and their role in identifying and confronting systemic barriers to care for equity deserving patient populations including all efforts to address anti-Black, Anti-Indigenous racism and all forms of discrimination
  • Conduct thorough assessments (organizational readiness) of health disparities within Osler’s patient population and community, utilizing data analysis and research to identify key areas for improvement
  • Design, implement, and evaluate initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities and promoting health justice across diverse patient populations, such as but not limited to: LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, and other equity deserving communities
  • Collaborate with community organizations, advocacy groups and local stakeholders to address social determinants of health and develop initiatives to improve health outcomes for equity deserving communities
  • Stay informed about relevant legislation and policy initiatives related to health justice and advocate for policies that promote equitable access to health care services and resources
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health justice initiatives, tracking progress and outcomes, and preparing regular reports for senior leadership, committees and stakeholders as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Project Management Professional certification preferred
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have ability to lead others
  • Must be able to travel between all Osler sites
  • Sound knowledge and training in:
  • Diversity/health justice/cultural competency principles, concepts and sensitivities
  • Community partnership and relationship-building
  • Patient education experience is an asset
  • Relevant legislation, such as but not limited to: Excellent Care for All Act, Public Hospitals Act, Quality of Care Information Protection Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Equity Act and other relevant human rights legislation as required
  • Analysis, research, and interpretation of data related to health inequities and disparities
  • Communication – written and verbal
  • Preparing and delivering presentations
  • Microsoft Office Suite, databases and other software including learning management systems
