Healthcare Customer Service Representative in Swansea, Illinois

Customer Service Specialists are responsible for learning and understanding the entire front-end process to ensure successful service for patients.

They work in a fast-paced environment, handling inbound and outbound calls.

Responsibilities may include obtaining, analyzing, and verifying the accuracy of information received from referrals, creating orders, and scheduling patients to receive equipment as ordered by their doctor.

Customer Service Specialists should educate patients on their financial responsibilities when applicable.

This person must be proficient in using a computer, including system navigation. Additionally, this representative will act as the first point of contact for patients entering the location.

Shift: M-F First Shift – On Site in Swansea, IL

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the company’s current products and services.

Answer all calls and emails promptly, adhering to assigned goals.

Document all call information according to standard operating procedures.

Provide information about products, services, retail locations, and service lines based on customer needs.

Process orders, route calls to the appropriate resources, and follow up on customer inquiries as necessary.

Review all required documentation to ensure accuracy.

Accurately process, verify, and submit documentation and orders.

Complete insurance verification to determine patient eligibility, coverage, co-insurance, and deductibles.

Obtain pre-authorization if required by insurance carriers and process physician orders for approval and authorization when needed.

Navigate multiple online EMR systems to obtain relevant documentation.

Enter and review all pertinent information in the EMR system, including authorizations and expiration dates.

Communicate with Customer Service and Management regarding trends noticed with insurance companies.

Ensure insurance carriers are listed in the company’s database system and request new carriers be entered when necessary.

Contact patients when received documentation does not meet payer guidelines, providing updates and offering alternative options to facilitate the referral process.

Meet quality assurance requirements and other key performance metrics.

Resolve customer complaints and facilitate problem-solving.

Demonstrate strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

Actively listen to patients and handle stressful situations with compassion and empathy.

Be flexible with work tasks and hours of operation.

Skills & Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

One (1) year of work-related experience in healthcare administration, finance, insurance customer services, claims, billing, call centers, or management, regardless of the industry.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 – $18.00/hr.
