You are equally comfortable holding a politician accountable as you are chatting with children, and you know when to put people at ease and when to challenge them.You understand that audiences want to be both entertained and informed as they start their day, and you realize the importance of making audiences feel welcome and part of a community. You know that using a full range of tone, including humour, is key to strong radio current affairs programming.You have a sense of adventure, an eclectic range of interests and a keen desire to meet new people, explore our city, and learn other perspectives. You are passionate about championing stories from New Brunswick’s under-represented communities, and you love meeting listeners where they live through in-person public appearances and at remotes.An exceptional journalist and a keen observer, you must be able to quickly analyze a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of live, local radio. You have a strong grasp on Saint John and New Brunswick’s political landscape and its resource-driven economy, and you understand how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here.As a member of the Saint John Morning team, it’s clear you care about your colleagues. You act as a team unifier and collaborator, and are always looking for creative solutions to challenges.This role requires full time on site presence.Your responsibilities:

  • Pitch and produce original stories that deepen Information Morning’s community connections, elevate a range of voices and reflect the day’s top local news.
  • Conduct research and interviews, gather audio, write radio scripts, and package and present content for all platforms including audio, video and digital.
  • Host Information Morning live on air between 6:00-8:30 a.m. weekdays, conducting interviews on a wide variety of current events.
  • Interact extemporaneously with program participants such as guests, reporters, experts and members of the audience.
  • Participate in public relations or community outreach activities to promote Information Morning and CBC, with a focus on growing new audiences and building community connections.

Your profile

  • An engaging, curious, and spontaneous on-air personality, with a wide range of genuine interests, knowledge and insight, reflecting curiosity in many current affairs topics, and an ability to make them relevant to existing and new audiences.
  • Strong journalistic skills, demonstrated through original story ideas, live interviewing, innovative storytelling, and writing and vetting abilities.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC Journalistic Standards as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
  • Ability to react quickly to changing circumstances and breaking news; comfortable going off-script when needed.
  • A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in New Brunswick, and an openness to diverse perspectives and ideas.
  • Familiarity with digital and social storytelling, including podcasting, and a willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms (TV, radio, digital).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and locations.
  • A proven work ethic and a positive team-first attitude.
  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • A passion for public outreach and an enthusiastic ambassador of public broadcasting and the program.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
  • University degree or equivalent in a related field, with a minimum of five years of relevant or comparable experience.
